Colors in the masculine universe

Paris Men’s Fashion Week SS27 awakened a dormant perspective on the realm of menswear: it doesn’t have to be beige or black. In doing so, it revived an aesthetic reminiscent to some extent of the 1970s, adding color to the models’ looks on the runway. At times, the approach was subtle and elegant; at others, exuberant and bold. The fact remains: color has officially entered the world of men’s fashion.

From trousers and blazers to sweaters and shoes, color appeared across virtually every clothing category, especially in pastel shades which, in my opinion, create an incredibly charming and sophisticated spring-like look.

Have you ever stopped to consider how color is directly linked to self-confidence? It is interesting to note that dressing in bright colors is still viewed as a bold move. For years, we associated elegance with neutral tones. Perhaps it is time to rethink that notion and realize that a colorful, light, and unpretentious look can be just as chic.

This was evident on the runways. Jacquemus presented an impeccable menswear collection crafted from lightweight fabrics and a pastel palette that made trousers the star of the show. Saint Laurent opted for strategic pops of color, breaking up the sobriety of traditional tailoring without sacrificing elegance. Meanwhile, Prada, which showed in Milan during the men’s season, fully embraced vibrant colours and head-to-toe colourful looks. Each brand interpreted the trend in its own way, yet all conveyed the same message: men’s fashion is ready to embrace color.

The colors dominating the runways reflected an optimistic, sun-drenched palette. Butter yellow hailed by many as the season’s new neutral, appeared on trousers, blazers, and full matching sets. Tomato red injected energy into tailored pieces, while shades of blue, ranging from sky blue to cobalt, reinforced the collections’ airy, light feel. Sage and olive greens offered a sophisticated alternative to traditional earth tones, while shades of coral, burnt orange, lilac, and plum rounded out a palette inspired by Mediterranean spring and summer. More than just adding color, designers demonstrated that it can take center stage in an outfit without sacrificing elegance, transforming men’s tailoring into an expression of personality and confidence.

It is too early to tell whether these colors are here to stay or just a passing trend. Yet, there is a lesson to be learned: they don’t have to vanish entirely from a man’s wardrobe. A single accessory, a key piece, or even just a touch of color can transform a look and break the mold of the ordinary.

After all, just how appealing can a colorful piece be? For those not yet ready to embrace bold colors, I would suggest starting with the details: a sweater, a pair of loafers, eyeglass frames, or a polo shirt. For those willing to take a few more fashion risks, I would immediately opt for colorful trousers, blazers, matching sets, or even shoes.

What about you? Which bold color would you be brave enough to wear? Which combination best reflects your style, or your partner’s?
